Wondering if anyone tried these tyre pressure monitor kits from Ebay ? Would cost a tad over $AUS100 by the time you got them to your doorstep.

Tyre pressure monitor system from Ebay (US)

I though they might have been more expensive (get what you paid for?). Has anyone tested them for range? Could be handy to have a second set for a caravan / boat, unless they interfere with the ones on the car (ie same frequency). Monitors battery as well by the looks of the pic

Thanks Stan for the link ;)

I had a bloke come on a trip with me this year who had his 4by and camper set up with one of these monitors. Cost him a fair packet though(around $1500 from memory). They work very well. I am still not sure why one would need them but as an additional toy to the array of 4x4 toys one collects....well why not?...lol

I don't think that he had any electronic interference problems.

Cheers

Wazza,

I got 2 sets after initial reports on www.campertrailers.org forum.
Cost me around $140 AUS for 2 sets delivered.
I set is for the car and 2nd set for camper trailer and a spare.

One main drawback of the system is that it only comes with 4 sensors - so
you don't have a sensor for the spare tyre. It should be OK for Camper
Trailer where the tyres seat about 2m behind the end of the car, however
I haven't fitted the second set of sensors to CT as yet.

You can use both sets at the same time as long as all the 8 sensors are
in the range. If one of the sensors is not in range the main unit will
beep continuously and show 0 PSI for that sensor.

I got 4 sensors from one set fitted to the 4 tyres and 1 sensor from other
set fitted to spare tyre. The main units from second set shows one tyre with
correct pressure/temperature and beeps continuously on all others...

I have tested it through Madigan Line and it seems to work OK. Didn't had
any flats with MTR's, so can't comment on how fast they respond.

In short would recommend them to anyone who goes to the desert/etc
as a cheap insurance against ruined tyres. Sensors around $100 (probably $200)
fitted and with a tyre cost of around $300+ makes it no brainer...

Hi Stan,

Thanks for that. Bugger that it can't 'learn' that you want to have 5, 6 or 7 tyres monitored without beeping. Sounds like it must be 4 or 8?

Warren.

Stan,
I would be very surprised if it worked on your camper trailer, the wheels are to far from the receiver.
How long do they say the batteries last in the sensors?
What frequency do they run at, is it an approved frequency in OZ?

acdc,

From the owners manual:
Battety Life (Projected): 5 years of normal use
Transmitting Frequency: 433.92MHz

Just the exercise sake went out and tried the pickup ad different distances.
Took all 4 tyres (they are mine 2nd set) and put them 4 meters behind the cars.
(The measurement from tow bar to the end of rear CT wheels is 3.5 meters).
Put deflator on one tyre and went to watch on monitor. The pressure
on monitor started to go down and it started beeping when it got below threshold...

So yes it will work for CT as well (well at least at the start, not sure how it
will perform as a battery gets less power over time...)

Stan,
So you have a antenna on the towbar?
Most tyre monitor kits have a range of 5 metres from antenna.
My Sensatyre kit has a guaranteed battery life of 10 years.

Hi Stan, can you adjust the warning thresholds on this unit?

Hi Warren,

Yes, it is either 4 or 8.... If you got camper trailer then it not much of the problem:
First unit covers 4 tyres on the car, second unit covers spare from car, spare from
CT and 2 tyres on CT ;). I got two units wired up. But use only one unit, once
the CT hooked up both units could be used....

Just remembered one more "negative" - the monitor module was designed to
fit onto top/bottom of the windscreen, which IMHO is to much on the way due to it's size. So finding a good spot could be a bit tricky...

Hi Junior,

Yes the threshold can be adjusted from 0 to 73 Psi according to manual. I had
them set to 10PSI without any problems. The only problem is that you
have to set the threshold in kPa, even thought you can display pressure in either
PSI or kPa. So I have to carry the manual from unit with me all the time as it contains conversion table between psi and kPa ;)
